Despacito was a track from the year 2017 made by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the most streamed and downloaded song worldwide within just six months. The combination of reggaeton and pop music not only brought interest back to this genre but it also brought attention to Latin music as a whole. The Billboard Top 100 had four songs predominantly in Spanish by 2016 compared to two in the year 2015. In 2017, at the height of Despacito's popularity 19, 19 songs mostly in Spanish made it to the Billboard Top 100. By 2020 the number will increase to 41 hits that fall into this category. In the wake of Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017, popular artists began to collaborate with reggaeton performers. Drake and Bad Bunny were part of a team on MIA (2018) as did Madonna and Maluma. Madonna teamed up with Maluma to record Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. In 2020, several Reggaeton artists were complaining about the trend of the genre toward the mainstream. But a newer generation such as Rauw Alejandro was determined to continue the evolution. The musician incorporated electronic dance music and others into his music.
